According to the book, Chester Waite of Lynnfield, Massachusetts manufactured skillfully crafted doll house furniture starting in the 1930s marketed as Lynnfield. In 1944 major changes were made in the furniture designs and the furniture was referred to as H.M. Designs. The furniture of this era had small nails for pulls (unlike later pieces in the 1960's when the nail pulls were replaced by die-stamped metal pulls). Most of the furniture throughout the years was sold through Block House, Inc. an import and wholesale company located in New York City The furniture was carried by large department stores such as F.A.O. Schwartz and Marshall Fields for decades.
Around 1964, the furniture company was sold and most items were manufactured in Colombia. Sonia Messer became involved in the business and she enlarged the line and continued to produce miniature furniture until the early 1980s.
